Procedure
2.8 113 g of methyl 2,4-dibenzyloxy-5-(N-methyl-N-propylsulfamoyl)benzoate are dissolved in 300 ml of methanol and 300 ml of THF, 600 ml of 2 N NaOH are added, and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 14 hours. Some of the solvent is removed, and the mixture is neutralised using dilute HCl with ice-cooling. The precipitated product is separated off and dried, giving 2,4-dibenzyloxy-5-(N-methyl-N-propylsulfamoyl)benzoic acid in quantitative yield.
