Methyl(3R,4R)-4-amino-1-[2-(5,7-difluoro-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)ethyl]piperidine-3-carboxylate (Intermediate 38) (195 mg, 0.53 mmol), (2E)-3-(2,5-difluorophenyl)acrylaldehyde (FR 2872164) (90 mg, 0.53 mmol) and sodium triacetoxy borohydride (339 mg, 1.6 mmol) were reacted as described for Example 6. Chromatography on silica gel with dichloromethane/N,N-dimethylformamide (25:1 to 15:1) gave 119 mg (43%) of product as a colorless oil.
