tert-Butyl{1-[2-(6-cyano-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-4H-1,4-benzoxazin-4-yl)ethyl]piperidin-4-yl}carbamate (Intermediate 59, 835 mg, 2.1 mmol) was reacted with sodium periodate (2.8 g, 13.1 mmol) and ruthenium (IV) oxide hydrate (30 mg, 0.21 mmol) as described for Intermediate 115 for 16 hours, except, chloroform was used for aqueous workup. The product was obtained as a colorless solid, 230 mg (27%).
