1.75 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid were added to 0.4 g (1.255 mmol) of 2-(3-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethyl isothiocyanate with external ice cooling and internal stirring. Stirring at RT for a further 4 hours was followed by addition of ice-water and extraction with dichloromethane.
