The above nitro compound (6.16 g, 20.0 mmol) was suspended in dichloromethane (200 mL) and hydrogen chloride in dioxane (4M, 25 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred overnight and solvents were evaporated to give (S)-5-nitropyridine-2-yl-pyrrolidine-3-yl-amine hydrochloride as an off white solid (5.92 g).
