Procedure
A solution of 3-butyl-4-[[4-[1-(carbomethoxy)-1-phenylmethoxy]phenyl]methyl]-5-(4-nitrobenzylthio)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (from Example 1, Step F) in dry CH2Cl2 is treated with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (1 equivalent), and the resulting mixture is stirred at room temperature for about 30 minutes or until TLC indicates complete reaction. At this point the mixture is partitioned between ethyl acetate and saturated NaHCO3 solution. The organic phase is washed repeatedly with saturated NaHCO3, then dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated. The residue may be purified by chromatography on silica gel to give the title compound.
