Procedure

After adding 4 ml of 10% sodium hydroxide solution and 6 ml of ethanol to 0.48 g of 2-(6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-isoquinolinylidene)-2-[2-acetoxy-3-(4-morpholinyl)propyl]mercaptoacetonitrile hydrochloride (product of Example 23), the reaction mixture is refluxed for 30 minutes, then ethanol is evaporated under reduced pressure. The oily residue crystallizes out, it is filtered, washed with water and dried. The product obtained is dissolved in 5 ml of abs. ethanol under heating and the solution is acidified by abs. ethanolic hydrogen chloride solution to give 0.4 g of the named hydrochloride which is identical to the product of Example 17, m.p.: 210° C.
