Procedure
A mixture of N-[2-(3-isopropylindol-2-yl)ethyl]-1-imidazolecarboxamide (2.0 g), 1.8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-ene (1 g) and toluene (100 ml) was reflux for 1 hour. After cooling, the mixture was washed with water and brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (5% methanol-chloroform) to give 3,4-dihydro-5-isopropylpyrimido[1,6-a]indol-1(2H)-one (0.52 g).
