Reaction Steps
A mixture of 1-(1-phenylethyl)-2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)pyridinium iodide (3.5 g, 9 mmol) and 48% hydrobromic acid (20 mL) was refluxed for 16 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo to afford 1.9 g (76%) of 6-methylbenzo[b]quinolizinium bromide (Formula VII: R2 =H;R1 =CH3 ; Z- =Br-).
