Six grams (0.018 m.) of 11-(trifluoromethyl)-7H-benzimidazo[2,1-a]benz[de]isoquinoline-7-one were heated to about 100° C. in 25 ml. of methyl p-toluenesulfonate for about 16 hours under a nitrogen atmosphere. After cooling, the solution was poured into ether. The solids were collected and recrystallized twice from methanol/ether to give 4.7 g. (50.5 percent yield) of the desired product, m.p. about 263°-265° C.
