The method using benzyl chloride as a starting material is described. Benzyl chloride is reacted with a Grignard reagent of 3-vinylphenylmagnesium bromide in the presence of dichlorodiphosphine nickel complex catalyst to obtain (3-vinylphenyl)phenylmethane. The reaction temperature using Grignard reagent is in the range of 10° to 80° C. and the use quantity of Grignard reagent is 1.0 to 1.2 equivalent to 1 mole of benzyl chloride. ##STR8##
