A mixture of p-bromophenol (25.85 g, 149 mmoles) and 2-methylundec-1-ene (25.15 g, 149 mmoles) is stirred at 110° C. for 48 hours in the presence of an acid resin (Dowex 50×12, 3 g). The resulting mixture is purified by chromatography on a silica column (eluant: 50/50 mixture of dichloromethane and hexane), yielding 25.04 g (49% yield) of 4-bromo-2-(1,1-dimethyldecyl) phenol in the form of a light yellow oil.
