Reaction Steps

A solution of 12.8 g (49 mmol) of triphenylphosphine in 80 ml of toluene was treated within 10 minutes with a solution of 10.7 g (44.3 mmol) of 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl bromoacetate in 20 ml of toluene. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with toluene and dried in a water-jet vacuum. There was obtained [[[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)-ethoxy]carbonyl]methyl]triphenylphosphonium bromide which is processed directly.
