The reaction mixture containing 1.0 ml of cell free extract (protein content: 10.3 mg/ml) of Gluconobacter oxydans DSM 4025as prepared in the same manner as described in Example 1-(1) and (2), 1 ml of 0.5M potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) and 0.5 ml of 17.8% L-gulono-gamma-lactone was incubated at 30° C. for 17.5 hours. As a result, 2.19 g/l of L-ascorbic acid was produced.
