Procedure

6-(4-Chlorosulfonylphenyl)-3-diazo-2,4-hexanedione (2.0 g, 6.4 mmol) obtained in Example 3, (3) was stirred in triethylamine (1.5 ml) and ethanol (5 ml) for 16 h at room temperature, then the mixture was poured into H2O and extracted thrice with chloroform. The organic extract was washed with H2O, dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel (Wako Gel C-200) with chloroform as eluent to give the title compound as a pale yellow viscous oil; yield: 550 mg.
