Procedure

A 10-20% excess of BOC-Gly-OH is coupled to the H-Gly-O-Bzl with DCC in dichloromethane for one hour. The solution is filtered and the solvent is removed on a rotary evaporator. The residue is taken up in ethyl acetate and washed successively with 1M KHSO4, water, saturated NaHCO3 solution, and water. The ethyl acetate solution is dried over MgSO4, filtered, and the solvent is removed on a rotary evaporator to form BOC-Gly-Gly-O-Bzl as a semisolid oil.
