4.05 g of 1-methyl-3-[4-(4-hydroxy-4-phenyl-1-piperidyl)-butyl]-indole-5-carboxamide [obtainable by reacting 1-methyl-3-(4-bromobutyl)-indole-5carboxamide with 4-piperidone, followed by reaction with C6H5Li and hydrolysis] are heated at 50° with 40 ml of hydrochloric acid for 2 hours, and the mixture is worked up in the customary manner to give 1-methyl-3-[4-(4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridyl)-butyl]-indole-5-carboxamide.
