A suspension of 6-nitroveratraldehyde (84 g, 0.4 mole) and ethanol (1200 ml) was refluxed with a solution of allylamine (21 g, 0.44 mole) and ethanol (100 ml) for 1.5 hrs. The resulting dark solution was concentrated to dryness in vacuo leaving 100 g of a dark oil which solidified.
