To a solution of N-Boc-L-allo-threonine (500 mg, 2.28 mmol) in DMF (5 mL), KHCO3 (637 mg, 4.56 mmol) and MeI (227 μl, 3.65 mmol) were added and the reaction was stirred 5 h at rt. Water (20 mL) was added and the mixture was extracted with ether (3×20 mL), dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated to afford the methyl ester 106 (494 mg, 93%) that was used without purification in the next step. 1H-NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3): 1.19-1.25 (m, 3H), 1.48 (s, 9H), 3.78 (s, 3H), 4.05-4.10 (m, 1H), 4.32-4.40 (m, 1H), 4.45-4.54 (m, 1H).
