4-(2-Bromo-7-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-oxo-4,5-dihydrothieno[3,2-b]pyridin-6-yl)-4-oxobutanal. To 6-(3-(1,3-dioxan-2-yl)propanoyl)-2-bromo-7-hydroxy-4-methylthieno[3,2-b]pyridin-5(4H)-one (155 mg, 385 μmol) was added 80% aqueous acetic acid (7.7 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred for 2 hours at 100° C. The reaction product precipitated on addition of water, and was filtered and then dried in a vacuum oven to give the title compound.
