A mixture of 100 mg (0.23 mmol) [4-bromo-2-(4-isopropyl-phenyl)-7-methoxy-1-(2-methoxy-ethyl)-1H-benzoimidazol-5-yl]-methanol, 26 μl (0.33 mmol) methanesulfonyl chloride and 60 μl (0.35 mmol) diisopropylethylamine in 4 ml dichloromethane is stirred at 0° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture is poured on water and extracted (3×) with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers are washed with water (2×) and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 120 mg of the title compound as an oil that is used directly in the next reaction.
