Compound 11 (99 mg, 0.29 mmol) was azeotroped three times with anhydrous pyridine and then dissolved in pyridine (3.0 ml). To this solution, 4,4′-dimethoxytrityl chloride (106 mg, 0.31 mmol) was added, and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into 5% aqueous NaHCO3 and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed three times with saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried over Na2SO4, and then evaporated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent. The product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (1% methanol-CH2Cl2) to give Compound 12 (131 mg, 71%).
