Procedure
To a solution of 66.6E (53.2 g, 230 mmol) in DMSO (45.0 mL) was added 1-(bromomethyl)benzene (35.6 mL, 299 mmol). After cooling in an ice water bath, cesium carbonate (128 g, 391 mmol) was carefully added to the mixture, and the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature. After overnight stirring, the mixture was diluted with water and extracted three times with EtOAc. The organic layers were combined and then washed with brine. After drying over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtration, the organic solvent was removed under reduced pressure to yield 66.11C as a white solid.
