A 250 mL round bottom flask was charged with 83.18C (1.05 g, 2.80 mmol) and THF (15 mL) and cooled to −78° C. under N2. To the cold solution was added isopropenylmagnesium bromide (0.5 M in THF) (available from Aldrich) (11.2 mL, 5.61 mmol) dropwise. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at −78° C. The cooling bath was removed, and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at ambient temperature. The reaction was quenched with saturated aqueous NH4Cl and diluted with EtOAc. The organic phase was washed with water and brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel flash chromatography (0-15% EtOAc/hexane) to afford 83.18D (1.05 g, 90% yield) as a colorless oil.
