The N3-benzoyl-2′-O-[2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)carbonylethyl]uridine (750 mg, 1.5 mmol) synthesized in Example 14 was dissolved in dried pyridine (15 mL). To the solution was added 4,4′-dimethoxytrityl chloride (763 mg, 2.3 mmol), followed by stirring at room temperature for 1.5 hours. The reaction was terminated by adding water thereto. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography eluting with hexane-chloroform (1:1, v/v) to give the title compound as a white foam-like material (750 mg, 62%).
