4-[3-(4-Fluoro-phenoxy)-benzylidene]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.05 g, 2.74 mmol) (Step 2) was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) and treated with HCl in diethyl ether (8.2 mL, 16.4 mmol). After 16 hours the solution was concentrated and the residue suspended in diethyl ether. The resulting solid was filtered to provide the title compound as the hydrochloride salt (774 mg).
