To a solution of 4-bromo-2-[(2,4-difluorobenzylidene)amino]-5-fluorophenol (15 g, 45.4 mmol) in 60 mL of DMF, Cs2CO3 (22 g, 67.5 mmol) was added. The resulting mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 3 h and then allowed to cool to ambient temperature. Water was added and the product was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under reduced pressure to yield the title compound which was used without further purification (14.1 g, 100%). 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) 6.82-6.99 (m, 3H), 7.33 (m, 1H), 7.55 (d, J=7.8, 1H), 8.38 (s, 1H).
