5 g of linezolid are dissolved at about 40° C. in 150 ml of THF. The solution is kept at about 40° C. and 0.85 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid (98% w/w H2SO4) are added, thus immediately causing linezolid sulfate to precipitate as a white solid. The mixture is refluxed, under stirring, for about 30 minutes, then left to cool first to room temperature then on an ice-water bath, stirring for about 30 minutes. A white solid precipitates, which is filtered with suction, washed with 5 ml of THF and dried under vacuum at about 50° C.
