Heat a mixture of trans-4-amino-cyclohexanol (7.36 g, 63.89 mmol) and dihydro-furan-2-one (5 g, 58.08 mmol), in neat, up to 190° C. for 68 h. Cool the mixture to room temp. Dissolve the residue in water and extract with CH2Cl2 (5×100 mL). Dry the organic layer over Na2SO4, filter and concentrate. Purify the crude material by chromatography to afford the title compound: mass spectrum (m/z): 184 (M+1).
