Ethyl (RS)-2-{3-[1-(acenaphthen-1-yl)piperidin-4-yl]-2,3-dihydro-2-oxo-benzoimidazol-1-yl}acetate (1.6 g) was dissolved in ethanol (10 ml) and 2N-aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. The reaction mixture was poured into water, thereto was added to 1N-hydrochloric acid for neutralization, and the mixture was extracted with chloroform. The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated. The obtained solid was washed with ethyl acetate to give the title compound (1.3 g) as pale-yellow crystals.
