Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | 5-Methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid | HCID 14343 | — |
| Reactant | Phosphorus pentachloride | HCID 24819 | — |

| Product | 5-Methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carbonyl chloride | HCID 85624 | — |
Reaction Steps
A solution of 5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid (1 g) and PCl5 (1 g) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was refluxed for one hour. Then dichloromethane and POCl3 were removed under reduced pressure to give 5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carbonyl chloride.
