To a suspension of cyanuric chloride (1.00 g, 5.42 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in 1:1 CH3CN:H2O (9.0 mL) at 0° C. was added N-{[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methyl}-4-piperidinecarboxamide (1.55 g, 5.42 mmol, 1.00 equiv). This mixture was treated with 1 N NaOH to maintain a pH of 9-10, and the resulting suspension was stirred for 10 min at 0° C. This material was used in the next step without workup or purification. MS (ES+): m/e 433.8 [M+H]+.
