A mixture of 200 mg of 4-(3-pyridylmethyl)benzaldehyde (prepared as described in Reference Example 1), 0.14 g of methoxycarbonylmethylenetriphenylphosphorane and 5 ml of chloroform was stirred at room temperature for 3 days, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel using methylene chloride as eluent to give 48 mg of the title compound having the following physical characteristics:
