Benzoyl chloride → N-benzoyl-5-methylindole
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Benzoyl chloride | HCID 7412 | — |
| Reactant | 5-Methylindole | HCID 11978 | — |
| Product | N-benzoyl-5-methylindole | HCID 10354051 | — |
Reaction Steps
The 5-methylindole 1a is benzoylated with benzoyl chloride of a substituted benzoic acid to give N-benzoyl-5-methylindole, 1b. The bromination of 1b with N-bromosuccinimide and a catalytic amount of azobisisobutyronitrile in refluxing carbon tetrachloride affords N-benzoyl-5-bromomethylindole, 1c. ##STR43##
