Reaction Steps
(E)-3-Methoxycarbonyl-4-phenyl-3-butenoic acid methyl ester and 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzaldehyde are treated in the same manner as in Example 1-(1) to give (E)-2-[(E)-2,4,6-trimethoxybenzylidene]-3-carboxy-4-phenyl-3-butenoic acid methyl ester (foam) and (E)-2-[(Z)-2,4,6-trimethoxybenzylidene]-3-carboxy-4-phenyl-3-butenoic acid methyl ester (m.p. 208°-210° C.).
