Procedure

3.0 g (9.2 mmol) of trans-7-benzyloxy-3-hydroxymethyl-3,3a,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-oxazolo[3,4-a]quinolin-1-one, dissolved in 20 ml of ethanol and 40 ml of tetrahydrofuran, are hydrogenated for 1 h in the presence of 1 g of 10% palladium-on-charcoal containing 50% of water. The mixture is then filtered on silica and the solvent is evaporated off under reduced pressure. 1.1 g of product are obtained.
