Procedure
3-Ethynylphenol (1.18 g, 10 mmol), 2-chloro-N,N-dimethylethanamine (1.44 g, 10 mmol), Cesium carbonate (7.0 g, 21 mmol) was dissolved in dimethyl formamide (20 mL) and the mixture was heated to 65° C. for 1 h. The mixture was cooled to RT and the partitioned between water and dichloromethane. The organic layer was separated, washed with 2N NaOH and then extracted with 1N HCl. The HCl solution was then neutralized with aqueous NaOH and extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was dried and concentrated to afford 2-(3-ethynylphenoxy)-N,N-dimethylethanamine (0.6 g) as an oil. LC/MS; (M+H)+=190.
