Procedure
4-Nitro-2-pyrrol-1-yl-phenol (13.39 g, 0.066 mol), K2CO3 (10.9 g, 0.08 mol), Acetone (400 mL, 5 mol), and Ethyl bromoacetate (8.00 mL, 0.07 mol) were stirred at rt for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated to a yellow oil which solidified. The resulting residue was heated to 60° C. under high vacuum rotavap to remove residual ethyl bromo acetate. Recovered 15.36 g (81%) yellow solid.
