A mixture of 4-ethyl-1-(2-nitrobenzoyl)semicarbazide (4 g) in DCM (30 mL) was treated with triethyl amine (12 mL), PTS-Cl (4.8 g) and DMAP (100 mg). The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 hours, concentrated, and purified by silica gel chromatography to afford 2.3 g of ethyl-(5-(2-nitro-phenyl)-(1,3,4)oxadiazol-2-yl)-amine: 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.1 (dd, 1H), 8.0 (d, 1H), 7.8 (m, 2H), 4.9 (bs, 1H), 3.6 (q, 2H), 1.4 (t, 3H).
