Trifluoroacetic acid (10 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl 4-(2-methylthiazole-4-carbonyl)-1-oxa-4,9-diazaspiro[5.5]undecane-9-carboxylate (example 1, step e) (2.3 g) in DCM (50 mL) at 0° C. and the resulting mixture was stirred for 16 h. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo. Toluene (50 mL) was added and the mixture evaporated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in methanol (20 mL) and applied to a SCX cartridge pre-wetted with methanol. The cartridge was washed with methanol (250 mL) and eluted with 3M ammonia in methanol solution (150 mL). The eluent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue, dissolved in MeCN (100 mL). HCl (1M solution in diethyl ether, 10 mL) was added and the solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give the subtitled compound as a yellow solid.
