A solution of thiophosgene (39.5 g) in 200 ml of chloroform was treated with a solution of potassium carbonate (99 g) in water (200 ml) at room temperature. To this mixture was added a solution of 2-(3,5-dimethylphenyl)-1-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)-ethylamine (72.5 g) in chloroform (600 ml) with vigorous stirring. After completion of the reaction the mixture was poured into dichloromethane (500 ml) and washed three times with water, dried over sodium sulphate and the solvent evaporated in vacuo. This yielded the title compound [2-(3,5-Dimethyl-phenyl)-1-(2,3-dimethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-isothiocyanate in form of a yellow oil (81.9 g).
