A solution of 3.00 g (10.5 mmol) of 4-((S)-2-hydroxymethyl-pyrrolidin-1-yl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (intermediate 3A) in 70 ml of EtOH was treated at RT with 5.27 ml (21.1 mmol) of hydrochloric acid in 1,4-dioxane (4 molar) and the mixture was heated up to 100° C. After two hours, the solvents were evaporated and the residue was re-crystallized from MeOH/MeCN and Et2O to give 2.21 g (82%) of the title compound as colorless solid. MS: 185.2 (MH+).
