To a solution of methyl 6-[2-anilino-1-(anilinocarbonyl)-2-oxoethyl]nicotinate (66 mg, TFA salt, 0.13 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) was added a solution of LiOH (35 mg, 1.5 mmol) in water (2 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 22 h, partially concentrated, neutralized with 1 M aqueous HCl (1.5 mL), concentrated, and dried under high vacuum. 6-[2-Anilino-1-(anilinocarbonyl)-2-oxoethyl]nicotinic acid was used without further purification: ESIMS calcd 376.1 (M++H), found 376.1 (M++H).
