To a solution of methyl 6-chloro-3-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylamino)benzo[d]isoxazole-7-carboxylate (1.0 g, 2.8 mmol) in dioxane (30 mL) was added a 1N solution of LiOH, monohydrate (0.59 g, 14 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at 50° C. for 2 h. The solvent was removed and to the aqueous solution was added 2N HCl until pH 4. The precipitate formed was collected by filtration, washed with water (5 mL) and dried to give 6-chloro-3-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylamino)benzo[d]isoxazole-7-carboxylic acid as off-white solid.
