2,6-Dichloropurine (20.00 g, 106 mmol) is dissolved in THF (250 ml) under an atmosphere of argon. Diisopropylamine (16.38 g, 127 mmol) is added followed by 2,2-diphenylethylamine (25.00 g, 127 mmol) and the reaction mixture is stirred at 50° C. The reaction is shown to be complete by LCMS after 6 hours. 50% of the solvent is removed in vacuo and replaced with MeOH. The resulting precipitate is filtered off and dried to give the title compound. 1H nmr (d6-DMSO, 400 MHz); 8.05(br s, 1H), 7.35-7.10(m, 10H), 4.55(m, 1H), 4.10(rri, 2H), MS (ES+) m/e 350 (MH+).
