Procedure

To a solution of N-[5-fluoro-2-(3-phenyl-propionyl)-phenyl]-N-phenyl-oxalamic acid 2-methoxy-ethyl ester (500 mg) in MeOH (10 mL) was added K2CO3 (˜150 mg), and the reaction mixture heated at reflux under N2 for 1.5 h. The mixture was then cooled, the salts filtered, and solvent evaporated in vacuo. The residue was chromatographed (0-20% MeOH/DCM) to provide 3-benzyl-7-fluoro-4-oxo-1-phenyl-1,4-dihydro-quinoline-2-carboxylic acid 2-methoxy-ethyl ester (Compound 130). M+H=432; mp=168.0-169.0° C.
