To N-ethyl-5-(6-methoxy-1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl)pyridin-2-amine (52.8 mg, 0.185 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) was added BBr3 in dichloromethane (1 M, 925 μL) at 0° C. under an argon atmosphere. The reaction was then stirred at 0° C. for 3 h before it was neutralized with NaHCO3 (sat aq). The precipitated product was filtered off, washed with water and DCM and dried. Recrystallization from (MeOH/toluene) gave the title compound (11 mg) as a white solid. 1H NMR δ ppm 9.75 (br s, 1H) 8.58 (d, 1H) 7.93 (dd, 1H) 7.73 (d, 1H) 7.34 (d, 1H) 7.19 (t, 1H) 6.92 (dd, 1H) 6.56 (d, 1H) 3.32-3.38 (m, 2H) 1.16 (t, 3H); MS m/z (M+H) 272.
