Procedure
To a solution of 4-[(cyclopropylmethyl)thio]benzaldehyde (5.64 g, 29.4 mmol) in THF (250 mL) was added tert-butyl sulphinamide (5.4 g, 44 mmol) and titanium(IV) ethoxide (12.6 mL, 60 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 d then quenched with water (250 mL) and ethyl acetate (250 mL). The mixture was stirred vigorously for 30 min then filtered through Celite, washing well with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was separated, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give the title compound as an oil. 1H NMR δ (360 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.52 (1H, s), 7.74 (2H, d, J=8.3 Hz), 7.36 (2H, d, J=8.4 Hz), 2.95 (2H, d, J=7.0 Hz), 1.26 (9H, s), 1.14-1.06 (1H, m), 0.66-0.60 (2H, m), 0.34-0.29 (2H, m).
