Procedure

The Grignard reagent from the product of Step 2.1 (15 g) was prepared using magnesium in tetrehydrofuran (60 ml). Iodine (16.2 g) was added over 10 min and the mixture was stirred for 16 hrs. Water was added and then 10% sodium metabisulphite (100 ml). The product was extracted into petroleum ether and distilled. Yield 10.5 g.
