Reaction Steps
Piperidine (0.85 g; 10 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (1.38 g; 10 mmol) in ethanol (10 cm3). The resulted in the precipitation of a white solid. The product was collected by filtration and recrystallized from water to produce translucent, colourless crystals. Found: C, 64.6%; H, 7.6%; N, 6.2%. Calculated for C12H17NO3 ; C, 64.55%; H, 7.69%; N, 6.24%. M.pt. 197°-199° C.
